Shockwave Therapy for Pain Relief and Improved Recovery

Ongoing pain, tightness, or slow healing can make daily movement challenging. When discomfort persists despite rest or hands-on care, the body may benefit from additional support to promote deeper recovery.

Shockwave Therapy is now available at OMWC and may be incorporated into both Massage Therapy and Chiropractic treatments when clinically appropriate. Shockwave Therapy enhances blood circulation through sound waves and accelerates the healing of stubborn musculoskeletal conditions affecting bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy uses targeted sound waves to stimulate healing in injured or painful tissue. These sound waves improve circulation, support tissue regeneration, and help break down areas of tightness or scar tissue that may be contributing to pain or restricted movement.

This treatment is commonly used for chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions and is especially effective when combined with hands-on care.

How Shockwave Therapy supports care

Shockwave Therapy enhances the effectiveness of Massage and Chiropractic treatments by allowing your provider to focus more precisely on areas that need additional support.

By improving blood flow and tissue response, Shockwave Therapy may help to:

• Reduce pain and stiffness
• Improve mobility and range of motion
• Support faster recovery
• Enhance the results of your existing treatment plan

Both Registered Massage Therapists and the Chiropractor at OMWC are trained to apply Shockwave Therapy as part of your care.

Conditions that may be treated

Shockwave Therapy may be used to support healing and pain relief for a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles tendinopathy
• Patellar tendonitis
• General tendinopathy
• Hamstring muscle injuries
• Myofascial trigger points
• Bursitis
• Tendonitis
• Scar tissue
• Calcific rotator cuff tendonitis
• Frozen shoulder
• Shoulder pain
• Tennis elbow
• Heel spurs
• Shin splints
• Stress fractures
• Bone healing support
• Muscle injuries
• Stiff big toe

Your practitioner will assess your condition and determine whether Shockwave Therapy is appropriate for your care.

What to expect

Shockwave Therapy is applied directly to the area of concern during your Massage or Chiropractic treatment. The application is brief and focused.

Most clients describe the sensation as strong but manageable, and your provider will adjust the intensity based on your comfort level. Some mild soreness may be felt after treatment, similar to post exercise tenderness, and typically resolves quickly.

Is Shockwave Therapy right for you?

If you are experiencing ongoing pain, restricted movement, or slow healing, Shockwave Therapy may be a valuable addition to your care. Your practitioner will guide you through the process and discuss whether this treatment is appropriate for your condition and goals.
