Tips to Help You Remember Your Exercises!

One of the most common things we hear from patients is, "I know I should be doing my exercises... I just keep forgetting!" If that sounds familiar, you are definitely not alone.

While hands-on treatment can help reduce pain and improve mobility, the progress you make at home is often what leads to lasting results. Rehabilitation exercises are an important part of your care, but the good news is you do not need perfect consistency. You simply need a routine that works for you.

Here are a few simple strategies to help make your exercises a regular part of your day.

1. Pair Your Exercises with Existing Habits

One of the easiest ways to build a new habit is to connect it with something you already do every day. Try completing your exercises:

 - After brushing your teeth

 - While making your morning coffee

 - During your lunch break

 - After walking your dog

 - Before getting ready for bed

2. Set a Daily Reminder

Set an alarm or calendar reminder for the same time each day. Give it a positive name such as "Me Time" or "Future You Will Thank You." A small reminder can go a long way toward building a healthy routine.

3. Keep Your Equipment Visible

If your exercises involve a resistance band, foam roller, or small weights, keep them somewhere you will see them every day. A simple visual reminder is often all it takes to encourage you to get moving.

4. Start Small

If your practitioner has given you several exercises, try breaking them into smaller groups. Complete 2 to 4 exercises each day and rotate them throughout the week.

You do not need to complete a 30-minute workout every day. Even 5 to 10 minutes of your prescribed exercises is far better than skipping them altogether. Every little bit of movement counts.

5. Track Your Progress

Use your Apple Watch, Fitbit, calendar, or a simple checklist to track your exercises. Watching your progress build over time can be motivating and help reinforce your new routine. You could even challenge a friend or family member to stay accountable together.

6. Remember Your Why

Your exercises are not just another task on your to-do list. They are designed specifically to help you:

 - Reduce pain

 - Improve strength and mobility

 - Prevent future flare-ups

 - Return to the activities you enjoy

Keeping your goal in mind can make it easier to stay committed.

7. Talk to Your Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, or Osteopath

If you are finding it difficult to keep up with your program, let your practitioner know. Your exercises can often be modified to better suit your lifestyle, comfort level, and goals.

Your rehabilitation plan should fit into your life, not create additional stress.

Progress Happens Outside the Treatment Room

Your appointments are only one part of your recovery. The time you spend on your home exercises can have a big impact on how quickly you recover and how long your results last.

Remember, consistency is more important than perfection. Every exercise you complete is one more step toward feeling stronger, moving better, and getting back to the activities you enjoy.
