Ear Candling is a natural, non-intrusive procedure that may alleviate the painful effects of chronic headaches or sinus conditions, ear infections, allergies or vertigo, as well as minor hearing loss due to excessive earwax build up.
For thousands of years, a form of hygiene known as Thermal Auricular Candling was used as a way of naturally cleansing the inside of the ears and head. The first known art of ear candling was in ancient Egypt. Hollow reeds harvested from damp areas were used as the candles. Native American cultures, such as the Aztec and Mayan civilizations used candling in healing and purification before initiation rites.
The ear candling process is also believed to detoxify the lymphatic system and clear the sinuses, which can also improve the clarity of hearing, sight, smell and taste. More subtle changes may occur on an energy level resulting in greater emotional stability and an overall sense of well-being.
Ear wax is continuously produced by the body. It is a protection against foreign material, dust, noise and pollution. It also acts like a shock absorber for sound waves. Excess wax build up is problematic. Auricular Candling is one way to relieve pain and discomfort. The warmth and smoke assist the natural process to excrete impacted or infected earwax.
HOW CAN EAR CANDLING HELP ME?
Ear Candling may be helpful with:
- Excessive or compacted wax in the ears
- Relaxing and calming effect in cases of anxiety and stress
- Ear, nose and throat disorders
- Stimulation of lymphatic system and metabolism
Ear Candling does not take the place of conventional medicine. Always consult a GP for an acute or infectious condition, and problems of urgent concern.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO FOR A TREATMENT?
The session will begin with a consultation to ensure the treatment is appropriate. Lying on your side, the candle will be lit and placed gently but firmly in the ear creating a seal and is held in position throughout the treatment. You may experience a fire crackling sound as the candle burns and possibly some popping of the ear. You will also feel a gentle massaging sensation to the ear drum and some heat as the candle burns lower. When the candle has burned it is carefully removed from the ear and extinguished. The entire process is then repeated for the other ear.
Sometimes the results are immediate and other times manifest during the days after candling.
Ear candling is not a cure-all, but is an ancient holistic process that has proven itself.
For maintenance, ear candling is received at the change in the seasons, four times annually. During allergy, cold and flu season, weekly ear candling may be helpful.
Ear candles should not be used if you have a perforated eardrum, recent ear or sinus surgery, tubes in the ear, bleeding or draining of fluids from the ear.
