Sarah Gagnon B.Ec

After achieving her Honours Bachelor’s of Economics in 1990 from the University of Waterloo, Sarah went on to work in the corporate world but soon realized she had to follow her heart and pursue her dreams to become a professional dancer. After a few years teaching latin and ballroom, Sarah went on to perform in various genres including Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, West African as well with various Latin bands. The diagnosis of Fibromyalgia ended Sarah’s dance career and sent her on the healing path which began with Pilates, where she discovered the importance of spinal alignment and mobility in maintaining wellness. Throughout the 14 years Sarah taught Pilates, she saw many clients who were told their conditions were chronic, recover and return to their favourite activities. For some, the recovery was a painful and tortuous path which sent Sarah in search for a passive healing modality that could help ease this journey. She discovered the Bowen technique and saw many seemingly miraculous recoveries in a short period of time, a situation which piqued her curiosity. She quickly realized that no research had ever been conducted on the effects of the Bowen technique and while there were many clinical anecdotes, there was no scientific data regarding the body systems being affected or how this process was taking place. The desire to understand drove Sarah to study classical osteopathy as Tom Bowen had done. She learned very quickly the power of classical osteopathy to heal in a gentle manner as her own course of treatment greatly reduced her FMS symptoms. Her student practice has flourished as the treatments have proven to be highly effective and the word has spread. Sarah has garnered an academic award and is currently in her 4th year of studies at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and Holistic Health Sciences.
